Hi all, I'm rebuilding the bevel box on my v35 as there's play in the pinion bearing and the crown wheel oil seal is weeping.

However, I need an old UJ to hold the pinion shaft still to undo the retaining nut. Does anyone have one I could borrow? Thanks. I'm in London but happy to arrange UPS or whatever to collect from you.

Thanks!

If you can get a deep socket to fit and a rattle gun it will come off fairly easily

I just did same to my 850 and nut came straight off

Good idea...thanks! Don't have a deep enough impact socket but I've just ordered a cheap one from eBay, I'll give it a go.

A bit obvious, but don't use it to put nut back on

Thanks for the tip, got the nut off dead easy with an impact. Reshimmed the bearings and replaced the weeping oil seal.

Now on to grinding a cheap puller to get the crown wheel inner needle race off to change the big oil seal behind there...

Years ago I had a machine shop do this for my big block FD casing, when I went back to pick it up later I asked how they pulled it out, he said we didn't, put it in the oven for a while then whacked it face down onto a block of wood, and it popped out.

That's my preferred method of removing bearings from blind holes.I bought a Baby Belling benchtop oven off Ebay for that express purpose.I'm not allowed to use the household oven

Did my V50 s/arm bearings like that the first time as I already had the gearbox down and could put the casing in the oven. Used a blind bearing puller and a heat gun the second time - worked surprisingly well.
