My first ride on my Eldorado was a white knuckle 1200 miles round France and Belgium to retrace my Grandfathers WW1 war diary. My freshly imported bike had the most horrendous brakes, the back one was very poor and the front, pant soilingly late. My cable (inline brake switch) was like a spring. When applying the brake, the lever would go back to the bars and then after what seemed like ages, start to work. (a near death emergecy stop on a French motorway was an experience I never want to have again)
I have fitted a brake lever with brake switch, to get rid of the slack caused by the inline affair and then made a new cable using 2.5mm cable from Venhill. Adjusting the drum levers to make both shoes contact at the same time, with their lever to cable angles adjusted to be at their most efficient has resulted in a brake almost as good as a disc. The rear brake needs the pads sanded to make full contact with the drum - my next job. |

I have now a 1976 Ambo that has 4ls , one of the 200 that were to be sent to Argentina but we're sold to dealers in Italy and Holland instead.

Will get pics sent once I can move clutter in front of bike, I had sent details of bike to Moe at cycle garden and that is where I got the information about the bikes possible origin, also it was last registered in Holland, perhaps I can galvanise myself to get it on the road and think about restoration at a future date. Must admit I am looking forward to riding it as it must be a rocket compared to my AJS and Ariel.
