I remember using that method n my original BSA Blue Star. Never had a problem.

If memory serves,and I do mean if!
The only magneto bikes with a kill button that I can recall were parallel twins, as they had no valve lifters.My M100 Panther,B33,Red hunter etc were all   stopped by the use of a valve lifter.As of course were the Brough and Vincent V twins.

No,you can't stop an engine with a euphemism.Though you might mislead it.

No kill switch the only button on the bars should be your horn button. To kill it you just pull in on compression release on the left bar end.

My DR 650 has a kill button, (which I don't use) and a decompressor, which I do.
I think it avoids backlash through the drive system.
So I'm in agreement Loria1--  welcome to the forum and greetings from Spain.
