The V35/3 has now lost the spark to the LH cylinder, the culprit appears to be the ignition pickup module. If I swop over the blue and black wires from the pickup the spark follows the blue wire, the black wire is the one that doesn't spark. Assuming the wires are not broken, I cannot see anything else that is user serviceable on this module so I guess it is time for a replacement, but I thought I would at least ask on here in case there is something else I should check first Note the blue wire has a piece of heatshrink on as the insulation was damaged, but it is the blue wire that is working, the black wire appears undamaged |

Sorry - I don't recognise the unit. Personally, with nothing to lose I'd cut the black wire and solder/crimp an extension to prove it is, or is not, a broken wire.
If that doesn't work then take lots of photos and dismantle the unit. Could be fixable but if not, you were going to replace it anyway. Not a great deal of help :-( stuart

The only way to check is to measure the resistance between the blue wire and the case then the same for the black wire. If both are the same then both pickup coils are working and the fault is elsewhere between the pickup and main ignition box . If one has very high resistance or open circuit then that coil is dead.

Also try to feel if there's any breaks in the black wire. |

Thank you for the replys, I thought I would update this post for future reference
I took the pickup of the bike and noticed that the black wire was damaged where it met the red plastic module, although when I checked with the muti meter the damaged wire was still connected to the crimp end However when I turned it over, it looks like the wires should be connected to the underside of the pickup, well the blue wire is, the black wire isn't connected I have now got a new pickup which I will try fitting this weekend, but I have a couple of minor queries. Is there any particular reason why the ignition pickup is secured to the engine housing with cheesehead screws and not cap heads? I have set the static ignition timing on two stroke bikes regularly but I have NEVER done the timing on a four stroke engine. Is there any advise or potential pit falls I need to look out for when doing the timing? I have borrowed a timing strobe as I assume that is essential As always thank you for your help |

Me I would have marked the crankcase before taking it off. Did you do that? Although your above photo might be used as a guide.

Cheesehead screws - more leverage with screwdriver?

Thank you for all the replies
To update this thread, I now have the new ignition pick up fitted, the pick up is pre stamped with alignment marks in the top left corner so it should be foolproof (Note the change to allen bolts instead of cheese head screws ) There appears to be three marks on the flywheel, two dots and a scribed line, using a strobe and with the bike running at a fast idle one of these dots appears in the viewing window. You can see one dot with a dab of paint, the other dot is just visible above it, the scribed line is a bit below it, but not in the photograph |
