Some people help other motorbikers with their manual dexterity, others with their mechanical knowledge, others with both.
I have neither. However, I have been told there are worse people than me as far as writing - albeit in a, to me, foreign language - is concerned. Therefore, I have decided to "give back" to the motorcycling community by resuscitating an almost dead blog (which I had started writing in Italian, changing my mind this year) and putting there a blog post for every day of my travel to the Lake District. You find the first ones below: Day one Day Two: Day Three: Day Four: Day Five: https://motocicletta10hp.wordpress.com/2017/08/23/day-5-british-weather-and-a-castle/ Day Six: https://motocicletta10hp.wordpress.com/2017/08/24/day-6-rain-crooks-and-flying-pigs/ Day Seven: https://motocicletta10hp.wordpress.com/2017/08/25/day-7-keyless-ride/ Day Eight: https://motocicletta10hp.wordpress.com/2017/08/26/day-8-shropshire/ Day Nine: https://motocicletta10hp.wordpress.com/2017/09/02/day-9-cotswolds-and-home/ If you don't enjoy it, at least I have tried... Watching. Just FYI my iPhone map will show locations of roadworks, closed roads (due to roadworks) and slow traffic queues, however I need to remember to look at it before leaving! |

Thanks Brian. I had looked at Google before starting from home (I have to drive to my rented garage and from there ride away with the bike) and it said all fine. The accident had obviously happened whilst I was underway.

I have edited the first post to show the links to days 5 and 6. For some reason this time the link does not seem to work automatically (it work with the usual copy and paste).

I have childhood memories of constant rain in the Lake District.
A6: I agree about this being a good road. Did this a while back from Carlisle down to Chorley, en route for Wigan and Warrington - was a Saturday afternoon and virtually nothng on it (thanks to the M6) except a flock of sheep being moved from one field to another, not too good to find around other side of a bend at 60 mph. |

Ah yes, .... Childhood memories of constant rain in the Lake District ... In the 1960's my parents had a static caravan on the shores of Windemere, On the site of the flying boat factory site, (Sunderlands I believe). I seem to recall it being pointed out to me that, it indeed has one of the highest levels of rainfall in the UK... Hence all the tarns and lakes ... White Cross Bay was the site, what a memory !! Regards, Tony

You could have done (should have?) A6 south from the Lake District, then pick up the A49 at Wigan. (Warrington Ludlow etc.) This is what I was talking about earlier.
EDIT: just read the part about why motorway usage, well fair enough. |

Actually I seem to remember Wigan and Warrington (especially) being something of a PITA and it was a good few years ago when I did it, looking at Google map satellite view the M6 detours around the larger conurbations so will see more countryside that way.
