NOW SORTED!!!!
Was a loose double connector, between battery box and air filter in a tight space, both halves were just touching and obviously this was giving inconsistent readings when volt meter was connected to fuel pump connector, been at this most of the day, at least it's sorted now, I hope!, everything back together tomorrow!!!!!!! I just did 300+ miles and the bike ran faultlessly, put it away on Thursday last, I went to go out on it today and it fired briefly then died. The motor is spinning no problem and I am getting a good spark, so I thought it may be lack of fuel but I have over half a tank, so I then decided to see if it was actually delivery fuel as I couldn't hear anything from inside the tank, I raised the tank, removed the hose, attached another hose to direct fuel away from bike, tried to start but no fuel was being put out by the pump. I thought it might be the old loose connection in the tank, so after much effort and to quote Paul Simon, "I heard words I never heard in the Bible", I got the fuel pump out, all connections were present and correct. I then connected the pump directly to another 12v battery and it whirred away good style which was a relief as a new pump is over £500. I then tested the connection on the main harness for the fuel pump with the ignition on and got zero voltage on the live side wire and I then tested for a dodgy earth connection on the other wire and I have a good earth, so somehow there is no power getting up to the connection. I have changed relays, I have changed fuses, I have wiggled connectors all to no avail. I have looked at the wiring diagram for the pump feed, (one colour wire is different,(the earth, ), and the wires go to a connection but it looks deep in the heart of the wrapped loom. Before I delve any deeper trying to find, what to me, is either a dodgy connection or possibly a broken wire, has anyone any suggestions the reasons for no power to the pump connector? So far, in a nutshell, this is what I have done: Tested pump off bike, it's spinning from a direct feed. Changed Relays and fuses. Checked all the connectors I can see. Checked for a good earth. There's something somewhere I can't see at moment so any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
