If you have an 8 valve engine which is not rollered, do not wait until it fails before action.

Ci had no warning of a prob, as I said before I got paranoid and pulled the cams - loud exclamations when I saw them

I intend to get mine done now over the winter months.
And a raised seat as well. 👍

Hi Mr Martian, yes you are correct.
I recently went through the process of finding a 1200 sport and settled with a 2007 2V version, as the advice on here is very clear. If it's a 4V and the cams haven't been updated then it will eventually fail. Unless there is paperwork to show the roller cam work has been done the only way to tell is to remove a valve cover and have a look. I think there are some pictures on one of the earlier threads which show the difference. Good luck |

i cant see why anyone selling a bike wouldnt take the 5 mins to remove the rocker cover to have a look, other than they dont want you to see inside.
any dealer should have them off anyway to check the gaps when they service before they sell it on

Remember the 'trick' to removing the Plug Caps without damaging them.
Poke a long thin Rod/Screwdriver into the 'Tunnel' above the Exhaust Header, feel for the bottom of the Cap, then lever it upwards. If you just yank on the Cap at the top, it'll crack the inside of the 90° Elbow, which causes misfires and or rough running, due to the Spark arcing to the Valve Cover, especially in the wet. |

You can guarantee a 2010 model would have had flat cam followers at the time of manufacture. The only way you can know if that has been changed is to remove a rocker cover and look for yourself.
