AGM batteries do not like deep discharge. Also you need a charge rate of at least 2A, those battery tenders will not recharge one which has been deeply discharged.

Thanks...I cannot get a new battery this week so I will check on my various chargers to see if I can get it up to spec. It was not that heavily discharged and will turn the motor over once spark plugs removed.

Also that bike's charging system was designed before AGM's were invented. Needs common or garden lead acid really. I also have use that 895 Enduroline, really good IMO.

Careful with the tarozzi fork braces, they are badly made. I had to have mine machined to fit.
Sealed deep discharge batteries for lawnmowers and carts may be cheaper than "bike batteries". A ~30Ah will spin the engine no problems. Mine is maintained with a 0.8A trickle charger.

Tarozzi Fork Brace should be here later today so we shall see (the one on the standard LM-II front end fits ok)

Still not done anything with the battery other than charge it up.
Now over 13V and will turn engine once (or lots if no plugs in which is not a lot of use other than moving oil about!). If I attach the jump start box, the bike starts first prod.
So I thought I would recheck this and make certain it is 100%.

Put it back together last night and no difference.
So the MotoBatt, even though showing 13.5 volts has lost its CCA.
Enduroline battery to be ordered at the point when I put it on the road again.

Motobatt seem to have varied reports on their quality. Some say they last for ever, and the worst I have read was just a few days.

The fact that with another jump start it turns over fine but by itself it doesn't would confirm to me the battery has had it.

To be fair the previous owner originally installed it and then let it go flat 18 months ago. I resuscitated it once but twice seems beyond it

Hi. I see that you swooped the original LM 2 footrests for aftermarket ones. Are you considering selling the original ones on? I am looking for a complete set for my LM 2 project as it came without them. Cheers Lars

I think I had the "Agostini" rearsets on my old bike (from Motomecca). I liked the way the gear linkage was much more direct than the Tardozzi system. Also, the bike fell over one day (on mainstand, sun so hot tarmac melted) but the beefy solid footpeg saved it from damage.

Hi,
I just came across your thread. Brilliant - just what I needed. I have a 1979 LM project and you've just helped me to identify the non standard forks, which are identical to your Marzocchis.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you do with the original fork brace from these replacement forks ?

Also, any idea of the oil capacity and grade for these - I can't find anything about them.

As mine were set full length in the yokes, which explains why it was too easy to get it onto the centre stand !

Great post by the way.

Cheers,

Perks

3 litres and 20W-50. I used to run 10W-40 Silkolene "for 4-strokes" but a bit too thin in the hot weather. Alright in winter I think. Whatever you use make sure it has enough ZDDP for the cam followers.
