Hi all - not fully got around to my new (to me) Monza, but connected the battery - lit up the electrics and found out that the motor turns  yippee!! However one thing that is going to need attention is the seat. The base is not in the best of condition and although the cover looks reasonable there is a split under the strap. Has anyone had any success with a restorer that can repair the base and match the cover with that lemans 11 type  grainy pattern? I will try Andrew at Leighton's, who has been brilliant in the past for me just wandering if anyone was particularly good with this style of seat? Many thanks.

No joy with matching the grain in the vinyl although Leighton's can get close. Big plus ref the bike is that I have managed to get the old girl running. The previous owner must have replaced the points and left the insulating fibre washer out so one of the coils wasn't getting a 'fire' signal. Doh!

What's wrong with the base, just rusty or got holes?

Basically sound, but a bit flaky where there are the original holes in the base. I reckon with a blast and powder prime and coat coat it should be fine, worst case would be a little metal work.

I would favour a good paint, but YMMV ...
