In your case, 30 is also connected to 86, rather than 87 to 85.
The problem usually is that the feed to 30 is via the ignition switch and lots of wire, plus the fuse, all of which  can have high resistance.
What you need to do is remove the connector to 30, leaving the same wire connected to 86.
Then add a new wire from the battery positive to 30, ideally also via a new inline fuse. And make sure the new wire is thick enough to take the 20 Amps the solenoid requires.
Brian.

Did this mod a while ago but had a 20 amp fuse blow at the weekend. Just wondering what size fuse others are using?

They need to be 30A relay minimum it most certainly will blow a 20A fuse but if the relay has a fuse in it that is to protect the relay .....

Even with the wiring mod, if the battery is a bit low you can get the situation where the solenoid pulls in not quite far enough to operate the starter, or it's slow doing so. The current taken by the solenoid is around 25Amps, but usually it's only there for a fraction of a second. The standard fuse is 15A, but fuses require heat build up to blow so if the solenoid is slow, then that 25A will blow the fuse, or even a 20A one. Go up to 25A and it should be more reliable, but do check the charge in the battery first.
I had the situation where there was some old sticky grease in the solenoid, slowing the movement. Cleaned it out and it was much better.

Thanks guys will increase the fuse size. Btw the battery is on an optimiser so voltage should be good but will check anyway.
