My Ambassador rebuild has a damaged LH front crash bar, in that it has dents. It is the police type with the kick stand mounting. As I am finding it hard to find a replacement, without taking out a mortgage, is it possible to fill the dents with something that will allow a chrome powder coat to be applied?

I have seen this chrome finish in pictures, but never in the flesh/metal. Does anyone have experience of having parts coated and the visual comparison between it and real chrome?

Cheers John.

The difference is Chrome is hard and long lasting when done correctly , the paint finish chrome I have seen is certainly not durable , Powder coat I really am not a fan of any chip or pinhole allows damp in and corrodes behind the powdercoat by the time you see the tell tale bubbles on the surface the underside is really rotten. On a road bike good paint can be touched up Good chrome will last years. I had Bars and other parts triple chrome plated 20 yrs and 150+ thousand miles ago there is NO sign of any deterioration of the surfaces

I would chrome them, but they are battered and bruised. I think I am going to have to keep looking for replacements that I can afford.

Paint 'em black? I thought you were deviating from normal colours etc on this one.
