Hi Graham your Le Mans looks pristine and I see you've taken a lot of effort to make it showroom condition.
I've never ridden a Le Mans - and doubt I ever will - but your LM 5 must be great fun to ride and give you pride. Tony |

Years ago a dealer offered me one of these that they'd taken in as a P/X for a grand.
It was a bit of a heap, but now I wish I'd bought it.

Thanks Tony, actually ive not owned this beauty long and bought it as a retirement present for myself.Only 3 previous owners and a genuine 13981 mls from new.I don't know if any forum members know Jason up here in Yorkshire, hes an absolute authority on mgs having owned Moto Strada for years now working on his own.Ive given the bike to him for a complete service, including carb top conversion for a lighter throttle, and a Dynatech 111 ignition to get rid of the points.Hes reported that the bike is indeed a superb example both mechanically and looks, and I cant wait to try her when this dreadful weather slings its hook!

Don't be in too much of a hurry to swap the carb tops, I've tried just about every setup and eventually ended up keeping the standard set up with teflon cables and careful routing, I've found the most beneficial things to be adjusting the clip ons to give a much flatter angle for my wrists, its quite easy to bend them to suit.
I've got the original set up on my rather scruffy and tatty mk5 and flat tops and teflon cables on my mk4, both have had the bars tweaked. if you ever want to have a look and compare them I'm not far away from you at J27 on the M62. The original carb tops cost a fortune these days so hang onto them if nothing else, does yours have the big valve heads ? I was lead to believe that some of the last Final Edition mk5 with the fairing mounted clocks had the mid valve motor as did some of the 1000s models |

Dellorto supply three weights of carb spring, Guzzi always fit the heaviest. Might be worth trying the lightest version.

Many thanks for that Keef, ive just got the bike back from Jason and im going out to try it.The throttle action is slightly lighter but not a lot so we will see!Im pretty sure my mg has the big valve head and b10 camshaft,Jason has road tested it after the big service and says she goes really well.

You are welcome to compare it to mine anytime you like, as I said I've tried most of the usual setups over the years and probably have most of the bits lying about in my spares box.
One of the best bits of advice is not to tyrap any of the cables tightly to the frame they need to be nice and loose. You may cry when you see the condition of my mk5 though as its waiting to be restored after a long hard life |

Well ive just done 150 mls today and the mg has performed without fault. The throttle is about 25% lighter than before,so is bearable and wasn't really a pain so that's a result.Ive since moved the clip-ons further out for a wider angle so my weight is more on the palm of my hand than the ball of my thumb, will try it out tomorrow.Performance-wise it handles superbly, the brakes are really quite strong, cranks over into bends effortlessly and the motor justs sounds so unstressed even at 90mph.Most of the time today I kept to legal limits with smooth roll-ons in top gear, and I managed 133 mls on 12 quid! With the Dynatech ignition fitted it starts as soon as you touch the button, even from cold and idles spot on,so you can say im well chuffed with it.

Sounds a cracker Graham, most jealous indeed.
I was passing Moto Strada the other day, purely by chance,Cracking showroom ,probably the most enjoyable showroom of bikes I have seen, many guzzis (bespoke),Norton, triumph,Harleys, well worth the visit.

Thanks Ado,ive tried the mg with the clip-ons splayed out a bit further and it feels a little better, but I might take the tank off and have a look at the routing of the cables,as Keith mentioned they shouldn't be tie-wrapped tightly to the frame (throttle cables)
