Thought I'd give a progress report, having had the Cali nearly a year now. I officially love the heel and toe gearchange now, none of that sore upper footbone nonsense you get with most bikes. I swapped the original barn door for a smaller Puig screen and now my helmet is in calm linear air. I was off the road for about a month with an odd problem - it would start and idle fine and even run fine for 10 or 15 miles, then as it got hot it started to m_sf_re, getting worse and worse until I stopped. Two workshops looked at it, the first for fuel issues the second for electrical, neither finding anything. So on advice from here and the Facebook MGC bunch I sourced a cheap new crank position sensor, which solved the problem! It's now done 48000 miles so I guess it's service time - can I do it all myself or what would you recommend going to a dealer for?
