Hi,while still hot after a 60 mile ride I drained the engine oil from the front sump plug of my V7 11 Stone and it appeared still clean after 2,500 miles since it's first service at the dealers. However when I removed the rear sump plug the oil soon changed colour to a cloudy white and even to a last little dribble of clear water. I've had big air cooled bikes and used them for short runs in winter and suffered condensation in the oil but the V7 11 was new 1-8-2015 and only done longish runs in warm weather. Has anyone had similar things happen. Steve.

Usually condensation, Ducati 2 valve bike suffer from this and a 100 mile plus ride usually sorts it as the water boils off.

Do you think it gets in by air box system

The water in oil can only be due to either condensation maybe the breathers yeah but also the possibility it got jet washed! It is sometimes the oil itself. I have had it on a bike I bought once I had changed the oil it never happened again , new bike run it see what happens next oil change!

What made you change the oil at 2500 miles?

May get in via the air box through the breathers, nothing to worry about as stated above it can get in via jet washing or over doing it with a hose.

Usually due to the delta T and condensation, it's how water generally gets into fuel tanks as well, you have to remember that the air in the UK is quite humid.

Thanks for the replies, I filled up with fresh recommended oil and did a few miles enough to get hot then drained the oil again and refilled with new oil, all ok this time. I don't really know the breathing system on this bike ,Guzzi's are new to me but I pulled off the rubber hoses from the cylinder heads and all looked clean and clear. I really like this V7 11 Stone and would hope to keep it in good condition long term so changed all the oils before we get salt on the roads and I start using my winter bike, I don't have a car.
I'm sure you Guzzists know this but for new owners like me it proves that it is important to remove both sump plugs, no short cuts you never know what's lurking in the slightly lower rear end of the sump. thank's again Steve.

That rear sump drain sits lower and that is design that way because water is heavier then oil and that is for the water to collect there. You always need to pull out that rear drain plug when you change oil.

Best thing to do is always make sure you get the oil temperature up when you ride the bike. Short rides in damp weather will cause that to happen. No big deal if you get the oil hot enough the water burns off anyway.

I had this same issue when I lived in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Cape Cod area for awhile. During winter time my oil would turn into something that resemble a coffee milk shake. A good long run with cardboard in front of the oil cooler would burn off that water. This was a 750 Honda that I had at that time.

When I used to commute on my Triumph T140 during Winter many years ago I had to change the primary drive oil every Saturday, because it always acquired the colour and consistency of salad cream.

Hi, I did get chance to go back to the dealer at last, they were as shocked as me, they showed me how their bulk engine oil was stored[ in sealed drums ] and gave me enough oil to change it next time. So all good, this bike just gets better as the miles add up. Also just for information for the owners having clutch adjustment problems I adjusted my cable by one turn at the lever for the first time in 3600 miles, hope you get yours sorted soon. Steve.
