I only had one key when i bought the '07 breva 750 a few months ago. I bought a new copy at a key and shoe store outside st malo last week. He put it in a machine to check if it had an immobiliser chip, it didn't so it cost €10.
He was Italian so of course he had to come outside to check it worked on the bike itself and have a look. One key, two happy people. :) Crapaud Edited by Crapaud - 30 Mar 2018 at 00:46 |

I had an immobiliser fitted when I bought the Breva new in 2003, it had a small key thing you pushed into a socket on the side panel
I asked for one that isolated both the starter circuit and the ignition circuit, as the local scum bump and run them after spiking the lock nearly got caught out one day when filling with fuel and I realised i had left the tag at home then it played up while on tour in Lazio, I was not happy when I got home I had a close look and found that it was designed to be fitted to a motor car and the socket had corroded I removed the bastard thing only to find that it only disabled the starter circuit any way !!! nowadays a big lock and chain does it for me

On the new bikes (my V9 Bobber) and indeed all the coded new bikes the user code is set at a standard 00000.When the key is inserted the message "insert your personal code" is on display for 10 seconds then it goes off. The bike can then be started as normal. To personalise this code you need to select "User code modification" function in the options. You need to have both keys handy and once you set the code the system will instruct you to insert the second key. If the code is forgotten you will need to have both keys again so that the system (recover user code) can reset it back to the standard 00000. Getting it set up is a pain so I have never even attempted it yet but will have a look at it eventually, once this nice weather is gone and I have the bike in the garage.

For that reason use a number you won't forget. Your DOB for instance.

....in a 5-digit format obviously. I also wrote my code in the Owner's Manual - on the page for setting the code - so should someone buy my bike in future they have a chance of discovering the code if needed. Tonyy
