Excellent. The rear rising thing and torque reaction type stuff you cease to notice after a while. I would only notice it again doing a hill start for example.

Having little room in my garage, I had decided no more until I sold a couple of bikes, so when I saw this for sale, although I got the " must have another one", yearning, I put off contacting the seller until I could resist no longer, only to find that Cola had beaten me to it.
Just goes to show, he who hesitates, spoils the broth.

Time for an update!

Having finally got under the tank, I realised new throttle cables were definitely in order. And as the points were at least 15 years old they could probably do with a refresh too.

Needless to say there was a delay for parts delivery so I kept using the bike. Starting was getting to be a problem, and the bike ran progressively worse. Plugs said it was very lean :-(

After extensive research here, and elsewhere, I bravely decided it would be better to get an expert to set the bike up. Got it back today and what an improvement (big recommendation for Racin' and Cruisin' in Kirkintilloch for Central Belt based Guzzisti).

The ignition was out by a country mile. Hard to tell if it had been badly set, ot the follower on the points had gone off. Either way, well worth the hours (of someone elses) time.

You have points? Certainly not original but probably more reliable than the original Motoplatt.
 
The seat height is high on those, I restructured mine and made it a bit lower and narrower so I could get my feet down a bit easier. But short legs do mean you can get them behind the fairing.

Did they renew the points? Or just reset? The heels that bear on the cam DO wear out eventually, albeit the contact faces may be OK, then whatever you do you can't get the timing to stay put. (Guess how I know! Big smile )

Hi mike I think it might have been your post that persuaded me to - A get new points and - B get someone else to set it up :-)

The points in it looked fine, but were probably 18 years old. And the garage who resurrected the bike for Ade (Adestrumpet) seemed like a good enough bunch so I suspect the timing had gone to pot in under 1000 miles (yoiks i've done 1000 miles on it already!)

It's been a fantastic weekend in Scotland. The Spada has been a joy to run around on.

Old threads never die ...

So last years riding was badly impacted by rupturing my achilles tendon (not motorcycle related) but I still got a couple of thousand in on the Spada.  (It was soooo much more comfortable when following my wife on her 125 than my V11)





By the end of the season though it was looking tatty and one of the fairing mounts had broken.  So off with the pannier mounts and the lower fairing ...



... she looks a bit odd in a bikini!

As I got back into riding this spring, the bike seemed a bit rougher than before.  It wasn't anything definite but a little forum based paranoia led me to worry about the CV support bearing so i got my tame local garage to take a look.

"Are you sure it has a support bearing?  We can't see anything."

I showed them the exploded parts diagram and after a routle around they admitted they'd found 'most' of it Shocked

The CV joint was fine so a lucky save but TOP TIP - when the forum's say the bearing gives up the ghost at 25,000 milesbelieve it and check it!  It was a cheap fix doing the bearing - the CV joint isn't.

Now the wife has a full license the Spada is beginning to stretch its legs ...



Apparently the japanese make motorcycles too!?!?!? Couldn't persuade my wife onto a V7 so we got a 'Honda' I think it's called Tongue  I'm now discovering how far round the throttle goes Smile

I'm going to have to do something about those scabby rear shocks and droopy silencers tho :(
