Having similar problems with charging after rebuild and re cabling the 1.2 or 2.3 watt lamps don't glow it takes 5watts to get a light going without engine running . I have new solid state regulator new brushes 3.5ohm across but can't get a std lamp to glow

Many thanks for all the comments here, most useful in my case.

Limped home 50 miles on the T3 yesterday with no charge from the alternator, lights off, low revs and expecting to break down at any minute. A testament to the huge battery that it got me home.

On the way back just before I got home the gen light went off
After I stopped the Gen light came on again and wouldn't go off even with the ignition switch (ignition, oil and Neutral all came on and off with the ignition switch). So, off came the battery and it was put on charge, flat as a pancake as you would expect.

On investigating further the earth connection from the rectifier was burnt through, so off came the rectifier board for testing

Testing the rectifier found the diode in the centre of the three from the rotor (v) was a short circuit in both directions. New board ordered from Guzibits. A comprehensive test of the entire system  will be made before fitting the new board

I ran a heavy dedicated earth lead and red output lead from my diode board back direct to the battery , so deviating any weak links

On the other hand, that burnt through earth wire possibly saved the stator coils going up in smoke. Although possibly the PCB track(s) on the rectifier board might have melted instead.
So that leetle wire may have stopped more damage occurring.
