Nick Adams writes tales for RealClassic magazine and I'm always impressed by the ground he seems to cover. I'm far too fond of my comfort to even consider bragging....

"Value your own adventures. Ride your own rides.", he says. Wise words.

Smile your own smiles, inside your helmet. Even if that's just a smile that arises from a quick trip to the local Tesco for some milk.

I'm with him on the winter rides, it clears the cobwebs, cures cabin fever and honestly I'll take a bit of ice over these roads with suicidal sportsbikes and plod in quantity

Can't say I worry too much about what car drivers think and I certainly aren't doing willy waving stuff if anyone else finds their level riding the same road on a unicycle while juggling chainsaws, it's what's good for you.

I used to do Elefant rallies and the like.

For every great ride with Reindeer running alongside and camping where you can hear wolves howling in the distance there is an Antwerp ring road in the sleet at 5.30 on a Friday night. If you can do more of the former and less of the latter it's a good trip.

Back in 2009 I was feeling quite pleased with myself having completed a back road journey from home to Turkey and back via eastern Europe's minor roads on a 500 Bullet. When I got home I met a chap from Rugby who had just ridden his Bullet home from India. His adventure was more challenging than mine, but I still recall my trip with great pleasure.
