Can anyone recommend a good dyno around Surrey? Or South/SW London even?

Looking to install a custom exhaust on the V7II and it's probably very different by the ones used for the beetle maps.. so it would be easier to tune it based on the dyno.

Cheers!

I had my V7 checked on a dyno when I removed the lambdas and I felt sorry for the poor thing as it got revved up and down.  It had a fan blowing air at it to keep it cool but I don’t think I would ever want to put another bike on a dyno

Did you ask Mark about the suitability of his map with the exhaust changes? He may tweak yours if necessary.

Cheers

I didn't go although a friend did. He was happy enough and they weren't expensive.

Lots of potential for damaging things – I sometimes wonder when manufacturers quote max. bhp figures, was that obtained via a destructive test... Ouch

If you want some entertainment search YouTube for dyno disasters...

A dyno does nothing a road test couldn't do. Just another tool.

The problems are the tuners. You wouldn't ride down a mountain pass with some teenager and his laptop on the pillion leaning the mixture off. On a dyno it's so easy to turn the dials to 11, then minus 11, then....

A manufacturers HP test is to a standard, either ISO or FMVSS and is likely to be conservative in its result. Send 500 bikes to Texas and have one lawyer see a dyno result 1 HP under and you'll be in a world of pain, especially if someone stuffs up an overtake and hurts themselves.

Maximum power output is something of a meaningless figure anyway in the real world. How often are you at max throttle and top speed?

Even in the "Texas" case, it wouldn't make any difference, maximum power would not affect an overtake, torque would.

I once (when I was young) marked the twistgrip so I could see how much it was open. A way of sorting out flat spots. I so rarely went over 1/4 throttle. Never got to full.

In the 'old days' of carburetors 1/4 throttle is barely on the Needle and not even close to the Main jet.
