Affording it is the main problem.

I currently don't have the room either... my V7 and Honda CB100 are living in the house over winter as the garage is full of my other bikes! :-D

From memory, he loves the engine, exhaust sound, comfort, egonomics, fit, handling, steering, headlight (ability to illuminate the road), was concerned about fit (position and angles of legs and arms, reach to handlebars etc.) and putting feet down, being a short person, but it wasn't a problem. No negatives as I recall. (Well deploying sidestand is awkward.) The engine is incredibly good apparently, pulls like an express  train in any gear with no apparent vices (e.g. bad fuelling, hesitation), even at low rpm. Despite being very smooth (has a balancer shaft) still feels like a Guzzi. I think he had a couple of hours on it. Only problem is the cost of buying one! Smile

Thank you. With the white  tank from some angles it does look a bit Le Mans 3 to me.  No bad thing that.

It looks nice but it's not for me.. Not because there's anything wrong with it but simply because it's more than I need these days..

Given my collection of "characterful" bikes with minds of their own and my lack of physical strength what I need is something smallish, light with reasonable power..
I could find the cash but new bikes these days always seem to be heavy and over-burdened with the latest Euro N bits and pieces..
Maybe Guzzi will bring out a new "V5" for those of us that would love a new but light V35 / 50...!

Cheers,

Adrian

I know exactly what you mean Adrian. Much as I like the look of the Mandello, it isn't what I want these days.
I had a test ride on a V7 850 2 weeks ago. I am sorry to say, and I can't explain exactly why, but it just didn't 'float my boat' like my V7 ii did. Thinking about having a test ride on the new BSA Goldstar....

I’m inclined to agree re the V100 - I can’t help thinking it’s as much an Aprilia with a transverse v twin and shaft drive as a Guzzi. It was designed in Noale (Aprilia factory). Nothing wrong with that per se but I don’t want modes and all the rest. I’ll stick with my V7 850 Special, much improved over stock by aftermarket exhausts, canisterectomy and remap. The other thing is that, given the customer development of the V7 850 - third map to render it acceptable IMHO, I won’t rush to buy a first gen M-G anything again. Same applies to the BSA - I get the impression that it wasn’t fully sorted when briefly tested by the press. Will it be now? Will the dealers be any good? I notice that RE are to ditch the British importer and set up their own network. A good thing in my view because in my experience post Watsonian Squire a lot of dealers sold RE bikes and had no notion of how to PDI them and service them. I refuse to be a pioneer again….Not sure the engine in the BSA will be that appealing anyway, being based on the old Rotax one fitted to BMWs and others. Just my opinion.

Thumbs Up

+1, less tech and less weight than the V7 for me too.

I can't see Guzzi joining the trend for bringing in sensible spec Indian or Brazilian market bikes though because they don't have one. My first thought on any bike remains "Does Honda make one like it". If they don't I then progress through brands who might be able to control what their Chinese suppliers do and decide if I can live with **** I don't want (like ASR and a CANBUS connected ashtray and Euro 96 emissions controls). Kawasaki recently launched a 180cc that looks fun but we'll never see here. The Honda CL500 would have got a go if they'd brought it in a year earlier.

What could Guzzi afford to do? Develop a liner for the 850 engine to make it heavier? How would that be better than a 500 from a factory working the Japanese way?

Why would they do It? The only reason to put a £5K bike in showroom space for a £10K one is if potential customers walk. It's why no Kawasaki dealer ever stocked a W800 and Honda won't bring in the H-Ness. People who walk into Guzzi dealers already want a Guzzi.

Now, if they'd understand I will pay £9k for a 50HP 500cc bike that's under 150kg wet and doesn't dissolve in the rain, has mudguards, headlight and mirrors that work etc., maybe they could find a place. Won't happen, the first comment on here would be "I can get a V7 with another 350cc for that".

I think the V100 is just right for Guzzi. Keep taking a few sales from people the Bavarians hack off.

I found my Enfield dealer (P&D Wakefield) to be the best. Proper old school and service driven. Wish they'd pick up Guzzi (and Honda), but their core business is Chinese 125's for delivering pizza. I can't imagine them getting a cappuccino machine and a salesman with a man-bun though.

Andy
