Hi bought a 2022 V7 850 Stone.
I search the owner manual and couldn’t find the shift points/MPH for 1st to 2nd and so on. This bike is quieter than my Indian Scout and XT 250. It really hard to feel if I am lugging the motorcycle. I was hoping someone has some insight I been keeping the RPM under 4,500 as stated in the manual for first 900 miles

I honestly can't remember. I'd guess about 15 mph. Within reason, just rev it. These days I regularly change up at 4000 rpm plus.
The flashio-mustachio on the speedo was a PITA from about 250 miles but given what'll come out with the first lot of oil (swarf, "spare" nuts and bolts, the fork Giuseppe used to eat his pizza etc.) it is worth sticking to. You'll know it it the revs are too low. There are plenty of roundabouts that require a deft change from third to second to third, but save that for after the oil change. Andy

Thanks
Yeah my real concern is not to lug the motor during break-in. My hearing isn’t great ( from working on jet aircraft ). I been shifting about 3,000-3,500 rpm and It doesn’t feel it lugging , the motor seen to have quite bit of torque. I am always use to looking in the manual for guidance on break-in. But the manual is kind of vague in this area.

That when shifting to 2nd and third on the higher gear I usually at 4,000-4,500 rpm

So long as you mostly keep the revs above 2,500 you will be fine.

3-3,500 rpm is where the engine on mine smoothed out when it was new. That would be about right in my opinion. Better to rev it than let it chug. Momentarily going over 4,500rpm won’t harm. Really it’s mainly the piston rings that need bedding in to get a good seal.

Checked this morning, 15-20 mph is about right and well under the rev limit.
Don't worry about the running in, just ride normally on a mixture of roads. The 850 has enough go not to be holding up traffic while staying under the rev limit. If the mustachio flashio does annoy, you can set it higher via the mode button. Andy

Thanks for the great feedback!
This put my mine at rest. I have had a dozen bikes over the years . Always try to break them in by the book. Riding this bike is quickly becoming one of my favorite.

I was going to ask 'what are shift points?', but yeah – 80% of torque is at 3,000, and 4,500 shouldn't be exceeded while running in, so there's your range limits to keep within. Which gear depends what speed you're doing. |
