Cabin fever is setting in and I'm desperate to be doing this sort of thing again. When the uninitiated ask you " So do you just ride your motorbike between Hotels every day and that's a holiday" ???? Yes, that's absolutely it. Sitting on a bike for a couple of hundred miles every day in lovely strange countryside . Boring isn't it, you wouldn't enjoy it Gdansk ship Yard View from our accommodation in Harlingen My treasured Guzzi in the Dordogne Edited by Tarquin - 07 Mar 2021 at 13:40 |

Ah, you have some very varied destinations there Tarquin. I must say, I've never been to Gdansk!
But the ferry ride into Bellagio really is a wonderful experience isn't it? I have booked an apartment in Bellagio for the 100 year bash, but I was also there in July last year. My wife doesn't do motorbikes, so we had to go in her car, but it wasn't such a bad trip. |

Missed chance there Glawster should have slipped the hand brake off and pushed it into the lake. All nonchalant like.

Hi Glawster, yes the ferry really is lovely, very special and as per usual I have the Lad in the Shed to thank for his organisational skills and planning, The man has literally been everywhere on his bikes over the years. 2019 we did many of the passes in the Alps including the Col de L'Iseran that you pictured and that's where my clutch slave cylinder first started leaking a little. Typical Honda though, I kept the resevoir topped up and it saw me through the Holiday and got me home. All being well, we're doing the Coast to Coast moped run in June and then have the ferry and accommodation booked for the Manx Classic provided that things continue to improve Covid wise. |

Well, it was and it wasn't. I bought it with a legacy from my late father with no intension of keeping it, I just wanted the experience. It was reliable other than for it's propensity to blow rear head gaskets. The rear pot would run hot 'cause the vee arrangement wasn't as good as a Guzzi. Anything over 60MPH wasn't pleasant, it sounded too busy and it vibrated. A 1939 500 Triumph twin would have run rings around it. It was great fun but they are too precious for regular use.
I enjoyed it, but I don't really regret selling it; other than..... sometimes. |

That Brough does look lovely Dave. Pity you didn't keep it, but I hope you turned it into a significant amount of money. Do you know Andy Newell from Thame? He has a beautiful SS100 which seems to be his daily ride.

Hi Derek, no I don't know Andy Newell but fair play to him for using an SS100 as a daily ride. The SS80 could have coped with the same usage but I was always wary of leaving it parked if it was out of my line of sight. In retrospect I do blow hot and cold about it but many of us do that about bikes we used to own.
It did perform well in the mountains and the mag' seemed surprisingly impervious to the heaviest rain France could throw at it. Edited by Dave P. - 08 Mar 2021 at 09:18 |
