Thanks Ian, I am going to try that. There is a washer already fitted, but I read somewhere that the the spring weakens over time & can struggle to push down enough to make contact. I want to sort it before putting everything back together. On the V50, the switch is under the battery tray & can only be removed after taking the battery & battery tray off first, which is a bit of a pain. Paul

I had my battery tray off several times trying to get the gear lever position right and ended up being able to do it in about 5 minutes. I just had to look at the bolts and they unscrewed themselves.....
