The change came about according to some Histerical documents that The French when at war with The British under Napoleon they formed up on the opposite side of the road to confuse British "Riding Officers" (Spies) it worked for a short time only. Other Countries took it up as a stab against The British.
But other Histerical reasons were the use of swords as most were righthanded so would ride on the left to have sword against sword. You aren't going to get far trying to hit someone on the opposite side of you. Others suggest it was due to carriage driving but as I have never driven a horse & carriage no idea on that one. But it could all be supposition there is quite a bit of stuff all over with the reasons

When you realise that early French cars had right hand drive, though they drove on the right. It was as late as 1925 ish when they changed to LHD,
