Hi,
Recently acquired a 1200 Sport 2V and I'm looking to improve the riding position to suit my height and ageing body. Hence can anyone advise what the best option for handlebars / risers is to give a slightly closer position. Also the handlebar clamps impact the tank on full lock (expect this is an ethanol issue) and wondered if there were any readily available spacers that lift the bar clamps up to prevent this. Also I've read a few posts on alternative footpegs (eg Knight, Buell, Goldwing) and wondered what others have found works best to give a little more leg room. Many thanks |

On my sport (sold now) I fitted Buell footpegs dropped the feet approx 25mm and back about 25mm. I fitted Renthal fatbars which required a small amount of fettling the clamps, they have almost exactly the same rise and pullback as Aprilla Mana Bars. around 30mm more rise and a small amount more pullback. Never had a problem with clamps hitting the tank though.
Finally after 13 years the riding position got to me (and the weight) sold it and bought a V85tt. It is sadly missed.

Thanks Les, I think the tank has suffered from an Ethanol issue and has swollen slightly although the blistering isn't too bad, but I'm thinking of sourcing a replacement. Other than that the bike is perfect.
I did consider a V85 when I was thinking of getting another Guzzi but there was just something about the 1200 sport! Thanks Steve, they look pretty good and I take it you didn't have to change the OEM bars etc. Was yours a 2V or 4V model? Regards Ian

I didn't change the stock bars, I think the stock brake and clutch pipes also worked but that depends on the height of the risers you choose, my bike was an 8v but the 4v would be the same

My Sport's tank expanded like a ballon. So much so it wouldn't go lock to lock and the risers had chipped the tank. The center bolt had no chance of linining up either. I left the tank empty with the cap up for about a month and it has almost returned to normal. |

But it will grow again the moment you put fuel in again. I filed the back corners off the top yoke and risers on my Norge, just clears the tank on full lock now. I also filed the hole in the back of the tank oval by about 5mm so I can now get that bolt in.

Its been fine for just over a year now. My Aprilia has a plastic tank and thats been on there for 23 years now and still fits perfectly even with its 10+ year old temporary for ever fix of plastic weld in a large 10mm hole

Over the yrs some of the most versatile bars I saw fitted were the "Jota" bars multi adjustable to so many positions ... Mandy Games had a very nice Mille GT with a nice full fairing on it theJota bars gave the range needed to get behind the fairing
