New to this site and totaly struggeling on its format and where i should start a post. So i guess i will do it here.
I have a 2017 stelvio ntx. My problem is this, the ABS is activating when it shouldn't. Meaning, i start braking normally and the ABS kicks in and starts its pulsating. Fluid is full. I can turn ABS off and it seams fine. Any input? Thanks in advance. Skipoff

Hi Skipoff,
Have a look for cracks in the sensor rings, this is often the cause for faulty abs operation when no other fault is apparent (on cars at least). Ps the CARC section is probably the best section for questions on the Stelvio. Either way welcome

No ABS light is not on. Where are the sensors? In the manual it says check if "tone wheel" is clean. wtf is a tone wheel and where is it located? Because of course the manual doesn't tell me.

I figured out what the tone wheel is and it is clean and not cracked. The front brake does not have the problem, just the rear brake. I checked the brake pads and it has about an 1/8" of pad left but i cant imagine that would cause it....but maybe? Followed the wires up and they seam all fine. Is there a engine control module of some sort? And is the ABS linked to it at all? If so, any idea of the loacation?
thanks

On start up, the ABS light should be on. It should go out when you start moving and get up to something like 6 mph. If the ABS light is never on then there is a problem. Not certain where the ABS unit is on the Stelvio, possibly under the seat, but it is obvious because all the brake lines go to it and from it. 1/8" of pad left would not cause any problem. Is the brake pedal firm when you operate it or a bit spongy? It's possible there might be some air in the line somewhere.

Initializes on start up correctly. Lines and wires look fine. Not spongy at all.

The abs rings on the wheels have their sensors an air gap away , with checking connections at the plugs and if you can see the air gaps and sensors , see if they're fine.
But have you changed a tyre lately , giving you 1 new and 1 original. I've had that in the past where the rotating diameters are different

If the ABS light is not staying on, then the ABS computer cannot "see" a fault. But even so, if the bike could be hooked up to the right computer, it might be possible to see if there is some underlying problem. Trouble it, so far as I know, only Guzzi dealers have the right equipment.
