Hi
I'm in need of some help with this, Bike is running well but when i park her up I have a constant drip of oil from my breather box, the pipe looks like it's an overflow which is connected to the bottom of my breather box at the back of the air filter, the breather box connects to the pipes coming from the rocker cover and the breather box is connected to the engine breather. Any thoughts what can be causing this

Is the "overflow" to which you refer not the drain back to the crankcase as shown in the third page of the above parts book? Item 16 being the first connector on-route to the crankcase.Or is it item 2 which I think is just the vent to atmosphere. It may be worth checking that the oil return pipe (breather to crankcase) is unobstructed because if it is bunged up then oil will drain from the atmosphere vent, item 2 in the illustration.

hi dave the oil is coming from item 2 which you say is the atmosphere vent, i'll give the brather to crank case a check to see if there is any gunk in it.
Thanks

When you say a constant drip Danny, would that be a small amount of oil after a ride which soon stops or more than that?

Probably nothing to be concerned about then. It's not unusual to get a few drips from a breather outlet.

If it's like my Spada 1 THERE IS a small bore hose that dangles down from the air filter box and points at the road, it is the oil "overflow" drain. It removes oil from the air fllter box if there is any present.

How to avoid getting oil in the air filter box? A. don't overfill the sump, B. don't ride it high revs for prolonged periods (guess how I know!).

The design of the internal tubes inside the air filter housing is supposed to "inject" any excess oil "mist" directly into the carbs, these may have been messed about with by a prevous owner (cos they think they know better than the factory) if so, oil excess won't be "ingested" by the engine. One possible fault.

There could be problems with the hoses of course, e.g. the return drain to sump (part of crankcase breather circuit) must not be blocked. This has a banjo bolt union at the bottom of the bell houing so very small hole(s).

NB: a sump extension can help by lowering the oil level and increasing the crankcase volume, but provided only the same amount of oil is filled.
