Hi all,
I am recently returned to riding bikes, I am new to Guzzi ownership, and this is first time post here. I have taken the tank off for the first time to get to the valves and to replace the air filter. I discovered a bunch of foam fragments in the air filter and airbox (upstream of the filter only thank goodness). This was a puzzle until I discovered foam stuck to the underside of the tank that seems to be degrading and coming apart. I haven't been able to have a good look at the foam as I unwisely did this job with a half full tank which becomes an unwieldy beast, and a pain to support off the bike. Anyhoo, lesson learned for next time... Is the foam standard? Or is it a mod from the previous owner? If it is required and standard, what does it do and how is it best replaced? Thanks in advance, fazza513

Yes the foam is standard, Yes the foam falls off, It is a critical part and the bike will explode if it is not looked after. I carefully stored mine in the Dustbin.

Thanks borderer. I think mine will be carefully stored there as well.
Does anyone know if it is there for heat, noise, rattling, or ???

It's one of those profound mysteries in life. It is Italian after all.

It was a cushioning effect for if ever Sophia Loren sat on the tank.
