Ho ho, what fun ! This is the burnt offerings that I discovered inside the rear wheel of my recently acquired ( already partly refurbished parts ) that will eventually become a Centauro again. It seems the previous owner of the project didn't remove the cush drive before sending it for powder coating. The cush rubbers are like pieces of rock.
I have to say I had spent an hour or two staring at the wheel, wondering whether this was a solid type or if it had a cush drive, couldn't see where the join was so I could get it apart. Eventually managed it, as you can now see. The O ring had melted too. Now, I need to know how hard am I allowed to hit the remaining steel hub tube to get that off as it doesn't sit exactly square, so maybe there's an O ring in there too. If you know please tell me. I can see this project is going to cause me some hassle. The powder coat finish isn't that brilliant either - must have been done by someone who likes orange peel finishes.

How you must love powder coating.

The parts list should show the detail of the wheel.

Hi Graham,

Centauros are, in my opinion nice, unusual bikes, so keep plodding away, it'll be worth it.

I too had a wee bit of a 'burn' problem many years ago when I got bit's of a MK1 Le mans for £75, when I say bits, there was no bodywork or much else. I decided it was going to be my project and would be worth it in the end, I sold a R100RS to help fund it, and it was worth it!, I wish I still had it, but life and things took over or should I say overtook.

It had the usual blow back through the open bellmouths on the MK1 and up she went. It had lay in a scrappy and then a mate's garden for ages and it went from CINDER-ella, (get it? Big smile), to the bottom picture.

Just keep plugging away, it'll be worth it!

Thank you, and apologies for derailing Graham's thread slightly Embarrassed.
If I can remember properly there was only the engine/gearbox unit , frame/ swinging arm/ bevel box, 1 clip-on , pair of forks and yokes, 2 wheels of which the front was dinged, no shocks, footrests etc., everything else had to be found.
Spares Gb were brill, they even got me a brand new, unpainted tank from Italy and Royall Mail lost it for 5 weeks!

Brian, posted a parts list link, that is invaluable in any build as it not only lets you see what you need but where bits go.

Apologies again Graham.

Wow, Robert - I am impressed with your courage to take that on as a project. What a scary thing to start off with, and a fantastic result, no doubt a great deal of effort.
I will stick with the Centauro build. Sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it when you find more unexpected problems, but I will hang on to the thoughts of many previous owners who often say it was the best bike they ever owned and wish they hadn't sold etc etc
Just about to start taking the engine apart to check condition of internal parts - looks pretty indoors !
