Morning all.
I want to put a in-line fuse in the wires that run from the right hand handlebar switch on my LM1. in particular i want a fuse in the white wires and the black and white wires that go from the kill switch. I want to do this because a year or so ago the switch melted due to a short circuit in one of my coils. I was amazed that the short circuit did not cause one of the existing fuses to blow, but there it is. My switch got smoked. I have at last found myself a replacement handlebar switch and I don't want this happening again. Does anyone have a view on what sort of amp fuse I should fit to protect my switch in the event that disaster strikes again - 5 amp - 10 amp ? |

The black and white wire is the start button, it just connects to earth. No point in fusing that. The two white wires, one is the feed from the ignition switch the other takes the current on to the coils. So you only need at most, one fuse in one of those wires. I would go for 10 Amp, otherwise you risk the fuse blowing for no reason, and that could leave you stranded.

I'm fitting a blade type fuse box to my V50 and as well as that have decided that I'll fit a 15 (or maybe 20) amp inline fuse in the main feed from the battery to the ignition switch as that is totally unprotected.I accept that everything will die if it blows......

Always carry a bit of silver paper from a fag packet. I'm struggling with fitting my new fuse box however....

Would these be better than carrying a spare? |

I’ve just put a blade fusebox in my SP1000. A bit more involved than I thought.
Different shape so had to relocate it further back. Thus had to extend some of the wires. Also the original has internal links to allow one supply to feed 2 or 3 fuses so I had to make link leads. Ian

Yes, I've had to bite the bullet and saw off the original mounting bracket on the V50 so that I can get the fusebox nearer the bike centre line to give room for the incoming wires. Mine also has links but the originals had little preformed things. I've used piggyback Lucar connectors although I'm not keen on them.
