Sounds about right, I wanted to buy one in 1978 (the 850  Mk1 "phase 2" [rectangular tail light]), if memory serves was > £2,000 on-the-road, not an ice-cream's chance in Hades! Cry

Ended up getting a Meriden Triumph, it was "only" £1,200

Sorry to hear about your situation.  I’d love to give it a home, but sadly I have no vacancy in my garage at the moment.
The last frame number for a genuine MK1 is VE17311 and first MK2 is 17312 (from Ian Falloon Sport and Le Mans Bible).  The real giveaway is the conventional fuel filler is correct for a MK1.  The MK2 had the flap cover.  Hope you find a buyer,
