Hi all. Is 76mm the right size for the oil filter on my 1200 sport. It seems like it is just a tad small. It is described as "oil filter removal tool moto guzzi 1200 sport 4v 2006-2008 76x14" will probably dress the paint off to see if that makes any difference.

I'm sure mine is that size. Unfortunately the filter fitted was 8 flute, not 14. Still, it helped put the new one on.

I see the problem now brian. The filter has 8 equally spaced flats whereas the removal tool has 14 flats so wont fit anyhow I try it. The filter is an oem moto guzzi filter. Makes me wonder if aftermarket filters e,g hi-flo have 14 flats.

Lazer tools make 2 types of 76mm removal tools 8 and 14 flute, not overly expensive from a local car accessory shop.
depending on how tight the filter is, you my need to revert to 2 centre punches and long bar to remove filter, can be a tad messy.
The oil filter removal tool can slip around filter if very tight.

I did try gluing bits of an old feeler gauge inside of the removal tool to reduce its size, but again it just resized the oil filter. centre punches won......
