I have heared of using molasses before but never tried it. I have used white vinegar on a lightly rusted tank just got to be quik draining and rinsing to avoid flash rusting

Have just posted this on another part of the Forum so apologies for the duplication but thought this was a better place :-
When I left the tank on my low mileage Kawa W650 half full of our wonderful ethanol laced fuel one Winter the result was a disaster inside. The large flakes of rust I think were what was left of baffles !Took ages to get all of the larger bits of crud out. Faced with a bill of £850 + for a new tank (if you could get one) I tried a product recommended by one of the main gurus on the Velocette Forum.. He had used it successfully on a couple of KSS tanks. It worked well, is non-corrosive (so doesn't destroy your paintwork) and left the inside with a smooth matt steel finish. It works best with heat (I left the tank outside on a table for a few hours on one of the hottest Summer days) but did the job. Had to rinse thoroughly afterwards (it is diluted in water) and dry properly. So much better than risking any form of liner... Ok , it's dearer than electrolosis but worked for me :- https://www.bilthamber.com/corrosion-protection-and-rust-treatments/deox-c As usual no connection with the company etc etc..
