Check that your fuses are making good contact in the fuse box

Yes, those fuses are known to make bad connections.
Otherwise check main battery earth and any other connectors you find.

Intermittent electrical problems are the worst.

Just give the fuse ends a squirt with contact cleaner and rotate them. If they wobble about bend the copper contacts a bit to tighten them up.

I still haven't fitted the blade type fuse box I bought a year ago.....

Is the key switch good? Can you get some contact cleaner into it? Try switching on then wobbling the key in the lock. You may have a poor contact within the lock. If you can get to the terminals on the back of the switch check for voltage at the input terminal.

Get a can of contact cleaner, preferebly the type with some lubricant included, then spray it into every switch you can find, plus every connector.

Best electrical preventative maintenance you can do.

if those ceramic fuses always take them out to clean them I found a dodgy fuse had quite literally been cut thro at the "Conical" end by regular turning in the holder, NB the Copper ones are fitted to older Mercedes Benz cars, Over the years I have also had the ignition switch fail

Yes I too first thought of something loose in or around the ignition switch, this has happened to others. Many many years ago a mate with a V50 had his pack up on our way to Switzerland via Germany, we had to bodge up two wires that he could twist together!

The ignition switch on my Laverda GTL packed up, and as I always padlocked the bike if I left it where I couldn't see it I did away with keys and fitted a high quality 30 amp toggle switch. No more packing away the tent with the ignition key still inside it.

This might help. But if you don't think it's the same as yours, check through the full list.
