I acquired this V35C, it had been stored more or less dry, but in an open shed, for years, nobody knows how many. I got it cheap….. It is from 1984 and shows around 31k kilometers. It gives the impression of being complete and original, the engine turns and there is compression, all five gears seem to work and the clutch is not sticking. I have not tried to start it.

From a distance it does not look bad, but on closer inspection things show up, if not I would be surprised. The switchgear, domino version, is beyond the possibility to be repaired, I’m afraid. Most likely to be replaced with something not original. The tank has been welded, for now it is impossible to assess its condition. Both fuel taps need replacement. The two front brake discs are extremely rusty, probably they need replacement - used ones. Likewise, the brake hoses seem unsafe. I said it was original, not quite - the mufflers must once have been replaced, since there are no stamps on them. When I showed it to the Norwegian DVLA for registration, they said that without stamped mufflers it will not be approved. So, there goes the big money, unless I can find a used set. The exhaust downpipes are very rusty, they were chromed, but will be painted black. This is what I have observed so far. Then there are all the hidden things, like wires, hoses and who knows what on a 35 year old bike. My intention is to strip it down and have the frame painted, since there are spots of rust everywhere.

I would have started to work on the bike, but I am in the search of a place to do this, and therefor delayed. My garage has not enough workspace for this activity since both my Cal EV with sidecar and my wife’s car have to be there now that winter is approaching.

I will post the, presumably slow, progression here and put in some pictures now and then, that may be of interest. When problems arise, I know that will happen, hopefully I will get some advice here, to have things sorted out.

Good luck - hopefully not too many hidden problems! With respect to stamped silencers, is there not an age exemption in Norway?

Probably, but there is no doubt it will not be approved with those present. I don't know which year this might have changed.

Currently a pair of Lafranconi silencers on Ebay that may fit your bike as there 32mm down pipe diameter.
Don't write your rusty discs off too quickly, as if the thickness is still there then they can be revived, and it`s amazing what a couple of hours with wire wool can achieve

I thought it was normal for Guzzi discs. Mine could go rusty overnight.

During damp weather my previous R1150R discs would `rust up` within a very short time (days) and according to the PO it had happened for most of the life of the bike when stood.

I certainly will look for them. The discs will be removed carefully, and If not too deaply rusted, I'll give them a chance.

After some investigation, the rules are not easy to get into, and new contact with the DVLA, I now know that the magic year is 1978.
And I have found a set of cheap, ugly silencers that I probably will be able to fit to the bike. One day use only, the day I show it for approval. They are stamped Moto Guzzi.......
