Cutting the wires to the side stand alone would not allow the bike to start. Solder the wires together might, but trade that off against the value of your life should you ever manage to ride off with the stand down. Have you checked the side stand switch is working OK? Give it a good spray with water dispersant and switch lubricant. Have you checked the the sidestand relay is good, including the socket? I would temporarily bridge across the side stand switch terminals and try starting. If it does you need to clean the switch, if it doesn't, then probably the relay needs looking at.

I think I'm chasing shortcuts because this bike does seem possessed. I do it right and it kicks me in the knax...I'll do it properly. Then ride the sodding thing. No more tinkering - services only.
