Im sure this subject has been covered before but here is my take on it. I suffered from an aching right hand after riding for about an hour on the V50. I took a slide spring to my local bike breakers and after rumaging through a large box of sadly unlabled carb springs found a pair the same diameter as the originals but slightly longer and a lot lighter. No science involved, just a case of squeezing the old and replacement springs and comparing the two. Once cut to the originals length and installed the difference was amazing. No more hand pain and absolutely no problem with the slide bodies not returning to their stops. Rarely can you improve the riding experience so much by spending so little money(£2).

Where different weights of spring are available, Guzzi always seem to opt for the heaviest.

Yes the subject has been covered and was always a mystery why MG always chose the strongest.

Oddly enough, the throttle on my V50 seems quite light. It's only slightly heavier than the ES2 which has a new nylon lined cable and is of course only a single carb. Maybe a PO changed the springs for lighter ones?
