+1. Had our usual week in April thrashing around (to Le Mans, this time via Bordeaux!). Nothing seemed to have changed. Don't take the p*** in town, look for the signs where they tell you a camera will be (usually somewhere sensible like a dodgy junction) and enjoy the quieter roads.

Our plans are moving forward, does anybody know of good hotels in or around Mandello del Lario?
Thanks |

If you are using the minor rads in France, watch out for signs saying Gravillons. They mean the road ahead has been covered with ball bearings, and can be a couple of inches deep on corners. They rarely sweep up the gravel after tarmacing, and they use a smaller gravel size.

We went to Gedinne last year in MX5, never saw a speed camera or trap. Got back, got fine in post;
'Vehicle checked at 105km/h, speed limit 90 km/h, speed used is 99 km/h' Fine category was 'Exceeding the speed limit by less than 20 km/h - maximum speed more than 50 km/h' That was near Roubaix on a minor road, 'D', I think. euros 45

Ah, gravillons. A few years ago I was in France on the 955 Tiger and encountered them - about 10cm deep and banked up all over the road. I was tiptoeing along very gently when this scooter came whizzing past me - ridden by a teenage girl with her helmet on the back of her head and open jacket flapping in the breeze. I was convinced at the time there was also a Gitane drooping from her lips but she slalomed off so fast I can't be sure......
