NNot my experience. Doing that gives less clearance for the yoke and still didnt allow the bolt to go in. Better to open the hole which allows the tank to sit correctly at the front ans also reduces the risk of the tank cracking probably caused by stress. It has no effect on the seat fitting.

My 2010 V7 Classic suffered the expanding tank syndrome. Worse still was the blistering paint which when burst stunk of petrol fumes. Replaced with another newer tank which I lined with ethanol proof tank fixer stuff (technical, eh?) which so far has done it's thing. Sorry to hear that Mike. My bike smelt of petrol too, from a very fine crack at the back of the tank below the seat level. It didn't seem too bad at first, but became bad enough for the hotel I was staying at with a few mates in Luxemburg last year to evict my bike from their garage as it was stinking out the restaurant above. Seems fully fixed now with a new tank and different 'quick release' fittings that actually work. Good job as I'm heading back to that hotel in 2 weeks for a long weekend of enjoying twisty roads in the Ardennes |
