That's great news Mark. I will take inspiration from your story when i role my sleeves up this weekend and do a bit of a re-wiring job on my LM. There will be many highs and lows I suspect. As long as I finish on a 'high' rather than a 'low', thats the trick I think.

Just try not to mix them up otherwise your high beam warning light will come on when you are on a low

Yep one loose earth and very weird stuff happens. Been there done that. Congrats on the fix. On my last Tonti's rebuild I had, I think just 3 main earthing points, behind the steering column, another on the left at rear of the regulator area, and I moved the negative battery strap to one of the gearbox rear cover screws. Rectifier negative was moved from frame right, to battery negative. All contact surfaces were scraped and emery-clothed shiny clean. |

Thanks all for the advice and support. My earths were all nice and shiny, just didn't have the one from the headlamp working well enough through the structure. They are all now sealed for life with aircraft sealant so woe betide them if they give me any future agro!

An opportune thread for me, as the wiring on my recent 1000SP needs attention.
With baited breath, I've removed the fuse box and the rectifier as the contacts and connectors are in a highly corroded state. Having started the scraping and emerying of same, I mourn the closure of Maplin as a source for my electrical contact cleaner. Anything to do with electrics I find I drag my feet, turning instead to the myriad of cosmetic and mechanical work, but one day soon I know I'll have to get on with it. And to think I bought the bike with new MOT and road ready. Ho Ho |
