Does anyone know a source for a reverse shifter for a 1971 Ambassador to enable 1/down, 3/up shifting. I understand that a gentlemen named Stephen Brenton used to make one before retiring. Any information on an alternative source or other solution is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Have a look on Greg Benders "This old Tractor" site. He shows three ways of achieving what you want to do.

Can't you just get used to it? I managed to, and it's surprising how muscle memory stops me making wrong shifts when swapping between bikes. Just about got my little Ducati on the road, which is wrong side as well as upside-down. Looking forward to training my brain to ride that!

I'm and old guy who has been riding bikes with the reverse shift (1/down, 3 up) for about 50 years and have two other bikes with that same gear pattern.
I just purchased the 1971 Ambassador and will see if my brain is too old to remember the difference before making a decision. The part that Stephen Brenton used to make would do the trick but he has apparently retired. Thanks to all, Shawn |
