Ahhh gotcha I used nylon washers I have a habit of buying the wee boxes, when i see them ...Maplins used to have them but many Hardware places do I have Grommets, R clips , split pins, circlips Fibre washers, nylon washers, neoprene rings are the ones I think of ... they are often in yellow boxes with all the standard sizes well worth it The times they have been useful and way ess than buying the odd dozen

Yes i was thinking it was the brake adjustment as opposed to the rattle lol  silly me tis m' age ye ken!

So to summarise, yes there's the up and down flapability AND lever play before it presses the plunger, and yes is a wee grub screw for a small Allen key Big smile

I didn't think there was enough room for a thackeray washer...

No indeed, nothing so complex as that, just a thin wavy washer.

Let us know how you get on. I vaguely remember trying to fix a rattly brake lever a few years back, and _seem_ to recall that squeezing the wavy washer in wasn't the breeze that I imagined it might be. I just grew to love the rattle.

Could you not use a combination of thin flat washers to take up the space, as in shims?
Brian.

Incidentally, doing a Brembo front brake lever, this is the OEM spring washer, in the flesh so to speak.

Well fancy that, a Thakeray washer! Was there just one on the top? my lever has a recess top and bottom.

the 'ole on the thin edge is where the allen head grub screw goes you can just see the end of it on the front edge

As far as I know that is not the OEM washer. It's the style that I posted, a wavy washer. The other is overly complicated and not necessary because you apply tension by how tight you do up the Allen screw. Ergo the wavy washer is quite adequate, just needs to take out the remaining play without the lever pivot binding. Looks like a former owner's "improvement" to me. Big smile
