Hi chaps ,I feel a bit daft here , im in the final stages of my mk v rebuild ,having rebuilt the rear wheel new bearings rubbers ect , my problem is refitting the wheel
Once I push the spindle in and do up the pinch bolt the rear wheel turns ok ,however as soon as i fit the nut and washer on the final drive side and torque it up,it has a lot of resistance to turn the wheel more than normal for a shaft.
As far as I can tell there is the brake calliper mount which locates directly onto the wheel bearing then the spindle pushes directly onto that , im not missing a washer am I? or does it sound like the diff needs a rebuild that is the only bit of the bike not to have been in bits
I feel foolish having changed hundreds of wheels over the years but im stumped the bike has been in bits for a long time .

Hi might be reading this post wrong but shouldn't you tighten nut first then tighten pinch bolt

Missing from your description is the washer/distance piece between the caliper mount and bearing.

This has a fat lip around the inside diameter, so that tightening the axle nut only squeezes the inside race of the bearing, leaving the wheel free to rotate.
That's assuming you replaced the spacer between the two bearings of course !
As pointed out, torque the nut before the pinch bolt.

sounds like either the wheel bearings aren't seated correctly or the internal spacer between the bearings is missing/too short.  I think I did it this way, fully seat the nearside bearing (retained by circlip) and then install the internal spacer before fitting the offside bearing until the inner race just touches the spacer.

oh, also, I think mine is the same as a Le Mans V and the rear brake hanger forms the spacer between the Swingarm and the bearing inner. No additional spacer if that helps.

Have you got a copy of the parts list? Shows all the bits for the rear wheeel, plus the brake mounting plate of course.
