You are absolutely right of course. Guzzi did, however, make provision for worn cam follower tunnels by offering oversize followers. This necessitated the reaming out of the existing tunnels to fit. So they must have expected some of their bikes to cover huge mileages. And they were right!

Well the spec for the Tonti bikes especially the California was 100k miles with basic servicing, owning a V1000 that has covered over 250k miles is a testament to the build ....The 70's bikes were built to last things like stainless front and rear mudguards make a massive difference the 03 EV painted steel ones are already showing signs of rust and that is a very low mileage bike less than 25,000

I love the Guzzi lump, beautifully simple, easy to work with and plenty of scope for tinkering.
