Might as well just update this post ignoring the vinegar altogether. Used White Spirit to remove the lens on a black seal clock. Took some hours. Basically, soak gutter and seal with white spirit, leave. Pick at it and repeat. Try not to poke through the slots as you'll want to keep the white spirit in the gutter attacking the seal. Eventually you'll get the lens off. Protect all rubber stuff you don't want ruined such as rubber handle screwdrivers etc... Video to come Ignor this bit... Other than the Stelvio remark Got another set of clocks without the new vent design, so still rocking those half moon vents as described at Wild. These are black stuff sealed. So I'm trying vinegar. Just soak the channel. Pick at it and leave. Pick at it and leave. Just trying to break the rubber stuff surface to allow vinegar penetration. Work so leaving it again for 10 hours.... Hope those chirps on the Stelvio thread aren't serious. Not vinegar - White Spirit. Vinegar may have done little or nothing. White Spirit on the other hand... ...try a bit and see what you think. PS. mask the label as the white spirit will remove the print if it get on it.

Out of interest, did any of you try running the bike with the clocks just disconnected? According to an account I saw elsewhere, it works. So if you want to nick a Breva, just disconnect the clocks and the immobiliser does nothing. It seems if the ECU doen't get an inhibit signal from the dash/immobiliser, it will allow the engine to start.

Thats something i thought of trying but bottled it.
So it seems the high tec immobiliser causes owners more problems than thieves. Gotta love a guzzi !!!! |

That's very unfortunate if true. On the Piaggio scooters I had it was all contained in the ECU, plus the immobilisation, and the key had a transponder chip in it which the ECU interrogated with a loop aerial coil around the key switch, same as is/was typical for a car system. |

The Breva has the same transponder and aerial, but it's connected into the dash. Then there is a CANbus link to the ECU. The ECU controls the engine and starting. One would assume the ECU would look not allow the engine to start unless it got the green light from the dash, but it would appear to be the opposite in that it will allow a start unless it sees a signal from the dash telling it not to. If the dash is not connected, it won't. Bit of a cock-up in design if so. Only heard one report so far. Would be nice to get confirmation elsewhere.

In a perverse way if true could be useful if your clocks dieBuy a set off multi function digital instruments and fit an after market immobiliser and you would be good to go
