Ahh, thanks, a face to the Moly name.

Blimey, Eurol make a few gear oils don't they? What do you pick for the gearbox then Nigel?

Yep ended up using 85/140 + moly (from a tube as above) in my 850 big block. I did notice a difference in temperature of the FD casing after a run, luke warm vs (previously) too hot to touch.

75w 90 Fultrasyn from their  advisor.   I use the same in my Bm although it also uses it in the bevel box .  I haven't always used the fully synthetic in the Bm and at  just under 100k miles the bevel box became rough and noisy . ( so I'm not sugggesting it's better or worse than anything else  just that it's easily available locally from a relative at the right price...)  I think its the front bearing  but I replaced  the complete unit  with a spare I had and haven't stripped the old one yet.

After approximately 10 miles riding home this evening, air temperature at 15`C I checked the bevel drive and it was about the same temperature as a hot cup of tea, which I had in my other hand for reference. Recommended oil in drive.

Thanks Adam - no moly by the sound of it...

Any one else with Nigel and using 75W 90 in the gearbox? Any comment on gear change quality?

Intetesting to hear the temps people are getting, its quite difficult to generalise on what it means  as there are a couple of heat sources; friction from the brakes and friction from the bevel and pinion gears both of which will vary depending on the ride and rider. Unless anything is really glowing hot I doubt any of it is an issue; the role of the oil in the box is to lubricate and also to conduct heat away.

Im off to look for a cheap thermometer for the hell of it anyway Smile

Just for comparison  I checked the temps  on my Bmw R11s
Slightly warmer air temps than original Breva test ,  did a round trip of approx  100 miles
  Bevel  box  30 deg c
Brake Discs,    less than 20deg c
Exhaust headers near head  110 deg  c
 Tyres ....  Metz  Z6   24 deg c...
So generally way cooler than the Breva.
