To start mine when flooded (for example having mistakenly first used choke in hot weather) Chokes OFF, hold down starter button and repeatedly open / close twist grip, to get some neat air into it, eventually should start and run. Was a while ago though since I did this. I remember someone telling me the chokes are only for very cold weather, and if not, just twist a couple of times while starting. HTH |

Have you actually checked you have sparks? If the kill switch is not original it might not be wired correctly.

As Brian said. Some kill switches close a connection, others open it. Checking for a spark with the plugs on the cylinder head must be an early port of call. If you have no spark there then that's what you need to be looking at.

Reading this again, likely something changed when battery was changed. A wire is not connected or to the wrong place. |

Yes, as a friend of mine put it when i was in a fix with a... fix, "What was the last thing you messed with?" Remembering that has paid off many times since.

Hi all again,
went to the garage on Sunday (garage is away from home so I drive there during weekends only) and I have noticed that I have no spark. I have tried to only leave the big cables connected (without the smaller ones for, say, satnav) and still no joy. To clarify: the old battery (a Motobatt identical to the new one) would not keep the charge but would work fine when charged. After I started the bike with the jump starter and rode it for, say, half an hour it was able to work perfectly and start the bike repeatedly without sign of tiredness. However, one week later it would not be able to start the bike because the power was too weak. I decided to change the battery when, after the jump start, I stopped the bike after a short time. My aim was to see how long does it take before I have the battery fully charged and functioning as I did not want to ride around with a bike that leaves me stranded if the engine dies on me during the first 15 or 20 minutes of operation. This is exactly what happened, the battery was too weak to start the engine after refuelling. Before dismounting the old battery I took careful note of the cables: the two big ones and then two small ones on the "negative" side and one small one on the "positive" side, and I have put them back exactly as they were. I have also dismounted the battery last Sunday and searched for "rogue cables", none found. I begin to think that there might be a contact or defect inside the kill switch? However, how are the odds that it happens just when I install the battery? We aren't talking a delicate flower here. Ah, I forgot. I checked all the fuses and all the termination of the electronic injection, installed last year but flawless up to now. I have also paid attention that the spark plugs are well pushed inside the termination of the cables in order to ensure the spark. Never have I had such a mystery on such a simple bike. And what bugs me is that when the problem is found it will likely be something very stupid. |

So you've changed the battery and now you have no sparks. And you've connected the battery the right way round. Fitting the battery has disturbed a cable, and/or blown a fuse.

How about the big spade connector behind the reg/rectifier? You can easily disturb it. Did that once and pulled my puzzler for quite a while so I did.

What about the heavy cable to the starter motor? Or am I misunderstanding the post? It almost seems that the battery has been fitted arse about face. Edited by Dave P. - 17 Jul 2018 at 18:36 |

So it has electronic ignition, which make?
Implication is that changing the battery has stopped it working. |

Top tip take pics before messing with electrikery ....as I can't SEE it hopefully you have blown a fuse, if you have, as may be the case wired it back to front, that will have buggered the reg/rectifier and blown fuse if the fuse is blown check the wiring, to be fair ALL +ve ought to be marked RED and ALL Earths ought to be marked black The Thick earth goes direct to the frame the +ve to the starter ...... always difficult if someone has added "stuff" the smaller +ve wire ought to go to the rectifier .....
