There may be an offer of a swap for my 1941 Velo MAC. Its a V7 Special with sidecar attached. The Velo is probably worth £5k and the Guzzi is pretty good but certainly has patina. I doubt it has had replacement barrels. Is this a good deal and what is the difference between a V7 and and a V7 Special please? I know there are knowledgeable members on here, perhaps someone could enlighten me. Many thanks.

Bottom line is you would be hard pressed to get a decent V7 Special with an MoT (or maybe I should say in roadworthy condition) for £5K here in the UK. Ebay prices are generally inflated but still give a flavour... V7 is 700 cc, V7 Special is 750 and came a few years later with some minor improvements on the V7 Heavy chair use can warp frames - in general, not sure about Loops specifically but worth checking alignment. People more expert than me will be along shortly... Good luck! Edited by Simmoto - 06 Apr 2018 at 20:51 |

Moto corsa have a 1970 v7special for £11000 with “room for improvement “ for sale at the moment. I recently insured my 1971 v7 Special and increased the value to £9000, its in good condition with well documented history and been very reliable for the past 3 years that I’ve owned it. Now I think 9 grand is way to much money, however if it got stolen I’m pretty confident I’d struggle to buy something as good even for that amount of cash. Mind Moto corsa also have a Vatican blue V700 that they have had for sale for well over a year and that’s around £7000.

What's it worth? A very difficult question to answer, especially without seeing at least some good photo's.As recent evidence suggests Loops are becoming quite sought after and not particularly plentiful. This has lead to quite a sharp rise in prices.Compare it with its' peers,T140 Bonnie,Norton Commando etc.Arguably a better quality machine than most of the period and much cheaper(for the present)
than many. My 850GT had been attached to a sidecar at some point which has had no detrimental effect that I can find.In the end, it depends how much you want it.If it's a good one then £5000 seems reasonable to me. Like any old bike, it will probably require some fettling, but that's how you get to know it. Good luck and how about some photo's. |

Thanks very much for the gen chaps. It really is appreciated. The bike is in storage at the moment so I couldn't get a photo anyway. It's a friend of mine who was in the classic bike trade so I would have thought he would know the value of both bikes which led me to ask on here. I haven't seen the V7 for at least 18 months and I cannot remember if it had Earles forks fitted (which I don't personally like) and which I guess might detract from the value. I am not a rivet counter or a money grabber but its a fact of life that I can't afford to buy anything for fun that can't pay it's way if I have to sell it. Dave, the advert prices are interesting and I always wonder if they are ever achieved. Coincidentally, this same friend once told me that the high price enables the dealer to offer a buyer a really generous trade-in price so the punter thinks he's got a bargain.

My 850GT is insured for CN for £5000, which may be a bit low nowadays.
It is rather scruffy, but not messed about with and reliable and nice to ride. Done about 15k miles in my ownership. As far as I know it still has original chrome bores, but I've never had the heads off to look.

No need to take the heads off to check whether a particular Loop still has chrome bores or not. Just remove a sparkplug, make sure the piston is down from TDC, insert a "pencil magnet" in through the plug hole and touch the cylinder wall. Zero magnetic attraction = chrome, very slight = Nikasil, strong = iron liners.

Or check through the enormous number of invoices that came with it. To be honest you can tell on most of them by the external appearance. Replacement barrels look more silvery - maybe just because they are newer.

Or check for the word "Gilardoni" cast in by the bottom fin.

What's a v7 Special worth?
Same as any other bike, car, widget etc.- whatever someone will pay for it. Not helpful i know, but true. I can't believe what people will pay for 1980s Jap 'classics' that I sold for peanuts after a few years ownership. Wish I had kept that 1980 CX500...... |

Exactly as Dave P says; here is a pic. Really easy to miss/difficult to see, you need to get right down low and look up. |

£20K is wildly inflated!
I guess you've seen the V7 Special on Ebay for £7995 with best offer....say you could get it for 7000 or even £6750 - gives you something to compare the bike you're looking at to. |
