Top one looks very like what was in my 850 Le Mans. I always assumed springs were OE but as the PO did a lot of custom work on it can't be sure of that.

Don't KNOW but I'd start by trying both, maybe the longer one is necessary to give at least a slight preload to you particular springs.

I'll go for the preload option so I will. It's going to be lovely anyway as the front end has had zero attention for a looooooong time.

Out of curiosity, Min, what are 'twin springs" ?
I only know about single rate & progressive...

There is one short and one long spring per leg. I guess giving dual rate whatever that means.
Research and Mike say that the fork tops are from Le Mans 1 . All they will do is add preload.

The Spada III and Cali III had twin springs each side, to give some sort of progressive springing.
The SPIII seems to have the short top nuts. http://guzzitek.org/atelier/gb/1000/1000SP3_Atelier(GB).pdf Scroll down to front suspension.

Good plan until I found my stanchions.
Long tops are 31mm diameter. Short tops are 29mm so that's what is going in. Pushing against the ground test shows adequate preload for the time being. Cheers Min |
