Yes, I found that out the hard way, having done the mod, the light relay coil is powered all the time, regardless of the ignition. One dead battery later.....
All that relay does is cut the headlight when you press the start button to reduce the load on the battery. Trick is to switch the light on after starting.

Hmmm, I will have to study the instructions in the thread. Electrics are not really my forte, as you have probably gathered! Fortunately I always switch lights off before I kill the engine.

Yeah I see... wiring diagram here.....
http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzi007/schematics/1994_California_1100.gif 35 is starter relay 42 is the headlamp off relay. But if pin 30 of 35 (blue/black wire?) is made permanently live, current is contantly draining down relay 42. - |

I can see from this which is the front end etc.
An achievement for me. Are all wiring diagrams like this? |

Mike, that's the one for the carb model, but the start relay wiring is the same. I linked to the injection diagram earlier.
Yes, so as we said, relay 42 must be removed and a bridge put in from 30 to 87.

Yes, I'm not always sure the details are correct on those diagrams. But there is no difference as far as the start relay is concerned.
